Ms Burwell has been a leader in the development of careers for information professionals.
She was founding president of the AAIP (Association of Independent Information Professionals)
in 1987, and she has published the Bibliography of Information Brokering and edits the bimonthly
Information Broker. Her businesses include Burwell Enterprises, an information management company,
and the Information Professionals Institute, which offers a nationwide series of continuing
education seminars for information professionals.
Mrs. Brady was a leader in Prime Time: Family Reading Time, an intergenerational family literacy program
targeted to help parents with low literacy skills to help their young children read and talk
about books. The program began in East Baton Rouge Parish with grant funding from the Louisiana
Endowment for the Humanities. Under Mrs. Brady’s guidance it was introduced throughout
the state and the nation, with active programs in 30 other states. In 2000, Prime Time received
two national awards, the Coming Up Taller Award presented by the U.S. President’s Committee
on the Arts and Humanities, and the Helen and Martin Schwarts Prize from the Federation of State
Humanities Councils.
Mr. Richard served as director the library at LSU-Alexandria for 16 years, and became director of the
East Baton Rouge Parish Library in 1976. As director he led several successful property tax initiatives,
and was able to build three new regional libraries and six community libraries. He has been a regular
contributor to Library Journal, including an annual article on the best reference books. Among the
awards he has received are the Louis Shores-Oryx Press Award for Outstanding Reviewing, and the Essae
M. Culver Distinguished Service Award from LLA.
As state librarian of Louisiana since 1975, Mr. Jaques led a strong, healthy state library. Under his leadership, the State Library of Louisiana initiated the nation;s first statewide automated database and interlibrary loan network on laser disc, implemented a statewide network for the delivery of books between libraries, extended internet access to all public libraries in the state, initiated a program of state aid to public libraries, and introduced an annual Louisiana Book Festival. The Library received three John Cotton Dana Awards from ALA, the Special Humanities Award from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities during this time. |
