8. Senior Software Engineer and Senior User Experience Designer,
World Economic Forum, Davos, Switzerland
For
those of you who don’t know the World Economic Forum, it is an independent
international organization committed to improving the state of the world by
engaging businesses, governments, academic organizations, independent
experts, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and
industry agendas. The Forum is evolving its focus from just events and
reports towards global communities conducting ongoing collaboration around
key issues and themes, leading to deep insights and significant impact.
The Forum’s Engagement Technologies team is chartered with providing
a terrific set of community collaboration tools, hosted securely, and
constantly improved. The role of data in this kind of facilitation and
collaboration is growing, as well.
Most
of the Forum’s digital properties are built using the Drupal technology
stack. Other back-end infrastructure components are moving to Open Source
licensed replacements and off-the-shelf solutions that require deep,
meaningful integration into the Drupal environment. The Forum has a
terrific set of technology partners, and needs to match them with a great
core team. While we would prefer to use pre-existing code whenever
possible, when we need to write code to solve a problem, our inclination
will be to release it or contribute it back “upstream”. Thus, you should be
familiar with how Open Source projects work, and have some experience in an
operational setting with supporting such software. You MUST be passionate
about applying technology to enhance communication and collaboration around
the major systemic challenges that society faces.
To
apply, you must possess a broad intellectual background with a college
degree OR proven experience in large-scale project deployments. You must
have a strong command of English, virtual communication environments and,
ideally, at least one other spoken language. Additionally, you should feel
comfortable working in a mixed virtual/physical office with half of your
co-workers in other time zones. You will be expected to work out of the
Forum’s NYC Mid-town office, represent your software projects at
conferences, travel to Geneva on a regular basis, and to other events and
meetings when appropriate.
Currently,
we are hiring for four positions. Number of openings are listed next to the
job title.

online services, working knowledge of the specifications for OGC service
protocols, a basic understanding of HTTP protocols and service-oriented
architecture, as well as skill in explaining technical issues to non-expert

E-Science Librarian
Assistant Librarian/Associate Librarian
Indiana University Bloomington Libraries
The IU Bloomington Libraries are seeking an
energetic, innovative and service-oriented individual for the newly
created position of E-Science Librarian at the Indiana University
Bloomington Libraries. Reporting to the Head of the IUScholarWorks
Department, the person in this position will also serve as an active

Founded in 1820, Indiana
University-Bloomington has grown from a small state seminary into the
flagship campus of a great public university with over 42,000 students
and almost 3,000 faculty. Innovation, creativity, and academic freedom
are hallmarks of IU Bloomington and its world-class contributions in
research and the arts. The campus covers over 1,800 wooded acres and is
distinctive for both its park-like beauty and an architectural heritage
inspired by local craftsmanship in limestone. The Indiana University
Bloomington Libraries (http://www.libraries.iub.edu)
are among the leading academic research library systems in North America,
having recently been named the top university library by the Association
of College and Research Libraries. The IUB Libraries provide strong
collections, quality service and instructional programs, and leadership
in the application of information technologies. The IU Libraries system
consists of eighteen libraries on the Bloomington campus, five libraries
in Indianapolis, and a library at each of the other six campuses across
the state. The collections support every academic discipline on campus
and include more than 6.6 million books, journals, maps, films, and
audio/visual materials in over 900 languages. Users can access more
than 400 databases, 43,000 electronic journals, and 224,000 electronic
