Appointment Rank:
Appointment at the rank of Librarian I (entry level, minimum salary

Position Description:
Under the direction of Resource Description Coordinator, the incumbent is
a member of Resource Description Group (RDG) and the greater cataloging
group within The George Washington University Libraries. The RDG is one
of four units within Content Management Department, a part of the
Library’s Division of Digital Initiatives and Content Management. The RDG
is responsible for describing and providing access to library collections
including serial and monographic content in all formats.
Responsibilities:
-Performs original and complex metadata creation for all formats—print
and non-print—that the Library collects.
-Takes an active role in training, works closely with, and supervises
paraprofessionals in a futuristic, fast paced and production-driven
environment by taking full advantage of available metadata, helper
applications, and emerging technology to augment, enhance and reuse the
resource description for access to Library collections.
-Assumes a leadership role in designing, implementing and conduction
training, resource description, data analysis for all Library projects
where metadata is the essential component, including but not exclusively,
manuscripts, archival materials, and digital content acquired from the
Special Collections Research Center and other sources.
-Participates in Library planning, serves on Library, University-wide and
Washington Research Library Consortium committees.
-The George Washington University librarians are expected to be active in
librarianship, contribute to developments in the field and perform
additional duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited Master in library/information science, or relevant
post-Bachelors degree coursework and demonstrated experience
-Minimum 2 or 3 years experience in an academic library, museum, archive,
or a comparable environment
-Experience in creating, editing, and transforming non-MARC metadata,
such as EAD or others
-Demonstrate knowledge in basic organizational, descriptive, structural
metadata standards and best practices, such as RDA, AACR, DACS, DCRM(B),
MARC21, Dublin Core, MODS, etc., thesauri, controlled vocabulary,
identity disambiguation
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in using OCLC Connexion and integrated library system,
preferably Voyager
-Familiarity with related UNIX or LINUX operating systems
-Familiarity with related XML technologies such as XSLT
-Familiarity with one scripting or similar programming languages
-Experience in using open source tools and/or free software such as
MarcEdit
-Working knowledge of at least one modern Western European language
-Working knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language
-Familiarity with metadata creation for manuscripts, archival, rare and
special collections materials
-One to three years of original cataloging or metadata creation
experience in a variety of formats
-Experience with producing reports using MS Access or a similar reporting
application
-Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and computer skills,

Job Summary/Basic Function:
Delgado Community College City Park Library seeks an innovative,
service-oriented librarian to lead the Access Services Department. In a

The William and Gayle Cook Music Library, Indiana

position of Head of Music Cataloging. Reporting to the Head of Technical
Services, Cook Music Library, the librarian will serve as head music
cataloger and will catalog books, scores, and recordings, as well as
other materials in various languages and formats.
Founded in 1820, Indiana University-Bloomington has grown from a small
state seminary into the flagship campus of a great public university with
over 42,000 students and almost 3,000 faculty. Innovation, creativity,
and academic freedom are hallmarks of IU Bloomington and its world-class
contributions in research and the arts. The Indiana University
Bloomington Libraries (http://www.libraries.iub.edu)
are among the leading academic research library systems in North America,
having recently been named the top university library by the Association
of College and Research Libraries. The IUB Libraries provide strong
collections, quality service and instructional programs, and leadership
in the application of information technologies. The IU Libraries system

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is widely respected as one
of the world's most comprehensive institutions for musical studies.
Central to this program is a faculty of 140 full-time teachers and
scholars and a select student body. The facilities of the Jacobs School
of Music include seven buildings housing offices and studios, practice
rooms, choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, three recital halls, the
Musical Arts Center, and the William and Gayle Cook Music Library.
The Cook Music Library is recognized nationally as one of the finest in
the United States. It occupies a four-floor 55,000 square foot facility
and features state-of-the-art technology. The collections number more
than 600,000 items. The staff includes six librarians, two professional
staff, eight clerical staff, and approximately 10.5 FTE student
assistants.
Indiana University offers a highly competitive Music Librarianship
Specialization program, which combines the instructional and professional
training resources of the School of Library and Information Science, the
Jacobs School of Music, and the Cook Music Library.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Head of Music Cataloging supervises five FTE staff, including two
librarians, two support staff, and hourly student assistants.
Develops and documents music cataloging procedures and policies in
keeping with current national standards and local Indiana University
Libraries practice. Catalogs books, scores, manuscripts,
dissertations, electronic resources, sound recordings, scores and parts
in the collections of the Performing Ensembles Division, and other
monographic materials.
Oversees preservation, labeling, and binding of library materials, and
communicates with the commercial bindery serving the IU Libraries.
Serves as liaison to the Herman B Wells Library central technical
services department, and represents the interests of the Cook Music
Library on the IO Cataloging Congress, a group that shares information
and sets policy across multiple cataloging agencies on the IU Bloomington
and regional campuses. Takes an active role in meetings of the Cook Music
Library staff. Participates in appropriate professional
development, continuing education, professional service, and research
activities. Other duties as assigned.
Remains current with the constantly changing body of music cataloging
rules and interpretations, including AACR2, RDA, MARC 21, LCSH, and LC
classification. Participates in national cooperative cataloging
initiatives: OCLC National Level Enhance, BIBCO, and the NACO Music
Project. Maintains a leadership role in the appropriate music cataloging
forums at the national, regional and local levels.

Technical Services Librarian – Electronic Resources
(f/m)
Responsibilities:
·
Manage our large electronic resources collection using an electronic
resource management system (Verde), link resolver (SFX), and integrated
library management system (Innovative Interfaces Millennium)
·
Manage and monitor the electronic resource product life cycles through
trial, evaluation, purchase and renewal to ensure compliance and
functionality
·
Negotiate licenses for databases, e-journals and e-journal packages
·
Collaborate with library staff in developing, cataloguing and maintaining
the electronic resources collection
·
Liaise with vendors to ensure that access and licensing issues are
promptly addressed and resolved
· Keep
abreast of developments, trends and issues in all areas of
responsibilities
Required qualifications:
·
Library degree (Master, Diplom/Bachelor, or equivalent)
·
Experience managing electronic resources in an academic or research
library
·
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
·
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
·
Proficiency in English and German (at least C1 level of the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages)
·
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Preferred qualifications:
· Working
knowledge of an ERM system and/or link resolver (preferably Verde/SFX),
and an integrated library management system
·
Experience in acquisition of print and online resources
·
Familiarity with consortial and national license models in Germany
