The University of Guam Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Library seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who will oversee the services and collections of the Government Documents Collection and Graduate Research Center.
Specific responsibilities include collection responsibilities for a selective U.S. Government Repository Collection, corollary collections, and an IMLS three year grant funded Graduate Research Center. This individual will report to the Library Director. This is a 12-month, tenure track position.

Requirements: Master's degree (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA-accredited library school. Knowledge of current trends in government information, academic research services and information literacy instruction. A minimum of three years professional library reference and information literacy instruction experience. Proficiency with technology as it relates to information resources and services. The primary responsibility of the Charles Warren Bibliographer for American History is to develop the College Library’s flagship collection of materials relating to American history.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

* Serves as the primary selector for library materials in the subjects of American history, literature, government, and culture
* Provides specialized reference services to students and faculty in American fields
* Monitors the acquisition budget and makes allocation recommendations
* Reviews the Americana acquisitions and collections for preservation and storage decisions

·              Lead and manage all aspects of the Libraries’ user services including planning, developing and coordinating the following functions: reference, instruction, outreach, information literacy, research consultations, interlibrary loan, circulation, reserves, web presence and public exhibits and events

·              Responsible for overseeing reference, circulation, and interlibrary loan units consisting of approximately 16 librarians and staff

·              Recommend, develop and implement services, policies and procedures related to the delivery of library services

·              Responsible for assessment and evaluation of library services

·              Establish and maintain clear lines of communication with administrators, faculty, students, other patrons, and professional colleagues regarding service needs

·              Strengthen the libraries’ educational programs to facilitate and support faculty research and student learning

·              Develop, lead and direct multiple user-centered modes of library service delivery

Required

·              MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, or international equivalent;

·              At least seven years of experience in research services in an academic or research library;

·              Demonstrated successful experience with the principles and practices of research services including assessment and data analysis;

·              Knowledge of current issues and trends at academic and research libraries including understanding of emerging information technologies and its applications for research services;

·              Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to manage librarians and staff;

Appointment rank and salary

Rank: This is a faculty position to be hired at the associate or full professor level depending upon qualifications and experience.

Salary: Preferred hiring range is $65,000 to $80,000 depending upon qualifications and experience.

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (UNM HSLIC) is seeking an energetic librarian who is innovative, technologically adept and service oriented, with a background in collection development.  The Collection Management Librarian (CML) works in close collaboration with personnel from appropriate HSLIC units and other academic units (external to the library) in developing, evaluating and assessing the library's collections to support the UNM Health Sciences Center’s missions.

Summary:

The successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward thinking, collaborative, and up to the challenge of providing necessary library resources for a comprehensive academic health center. The library’s size and culture allow for involvement in many areas, including providing library instruction, research, and/or reference service.

This is a faculty position within Library and Education Services and reports to the Coordinator for Resource Access and Delivery unit; it is a non-tenure track position with a primary appointment in the UNM School of Medicine. In addition to the above, duties include those expected of all HSLIC faculty, including envoy assignment, data curation, educational activities, committee service, strategic planning team work, scholarly activities, outreach, and commitment to earning eventual credentialing in the Academy of Health Information Professionals.

The incumbent provides leadership in acquiring library resources including the application of new technologies related to collection development/management; and articulates the direction, balance and emphasis of all collections, as well as formulates policies. He or she monitors developments within the publishing industry, innovations/trends in library collection development practices such as advances in scholarly communication, institutional repositories, and the expanding e-book market. The incumbent consults with and supports the work of the departmental envoys in their efforts to develop collections that support their academic departments. He or she manages the collection budget and tracks expenditures throughout the fiscal year. The CML represents HSLIC on appropriate University and statewide committees/teams that promote collaboration among libraries in purchasing and sharing library materials and other resources.

The incumbent also supports HSLIC’s new initiatives in e-science and may participate or provide advice in data documentation; developing appropriate data management plans, organizing data for re- use, and preparation of data for storage. The CML may participate in the development of preservation and access methods for research data to enhance interdisciplinary work and data sharing across the health sciences campus.

7. Library Director – Daviess County Public Library – Owensboro, KY

 

LIBRARY DIRECTOR – DAVIESS COUNTY (KY) PUBLIC LIBRARY

 

The Board of Trustees of the Daviess County Public Library (headquartered in Owensboro, KY) seeks an experienced library administrator, skilled in budgeting and financial management, with keen listening skills and the ability to respond to staff and community needs. The County Library is a vital part of why Owensboro was ranked the “#1 Place in Kentucky [for Raising Your Kids]” by Business Week in 2010. This busy Library is always “on the move,” serving 96,000 people from a new 51,000 sq. ft. facility with a staff of 44 FTES, a $3.6million budget, and strong auxiliary support from the Friends and Library Foundation. The Library circulates 749,000+ items annually and has 73,612 registered card holders. Challenges for the new Director include developing a new strategic plan, developing and working with new funding streams, and developing and implementing new services and technologies.

 

Owensboro is the fourth largest city in Kentucky, county seat of Daviess County, and a town of festivals (the annual Barbeque Festival being a popular one)--it is also the industrial, medical, retail and cultural hub of western Kentucky. It is 32 miles southeast of Evansville, IN; 109 miles southwest of Louisville, KY; and 123 miles north of Nashville, TN. The City is strategically located on the southern banks of the Ohio River, which provides a majestic backdrop to the ambitious Downtown Revitalization initiative and Riverfront Master Plan. The $120 million Downtown Plan calls for a riverfront park, downtown hotel and convention center, a market square and an arts academy. Responsibilities. As the chief executive officer of the Library (an independent taxing district), the Director plans, organizes, directs, evaluates, and reviews the library’s resources, personnel, facilities, services and programs to respond to the needs of the community.  The Director operates under the executive direction of the 5-member Library Board of Trustees.  Work includes developing and monitoring budget resources, planning and implementing overall library goals and objectives, and oversight of staff and services necessary to provide optimal service to Daviess County residents. Qualifications. A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited graduate library school; eligibility for Professional Level I Certificate meeting KY certification; and a minimum of five years of successful public library experience which includes at least two years of upper administrative experience  and staff supervision. Essential attributes include a broad knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship; excellent managerial, financial, planning and analytical capacity; ability to communicate with diverse groups concerning library affairs; experience evaluating new services and technologies; ability to handle critical incidents and resolve conflicts involving customers, staff, materials, or facilities; initiative, awareness and vision in developing library services, and skill in building and maintaining effective relationships with the Library Board, staff and community.  Successful director experience reporting to a governing board and experience working on a building project are preferred.

 

Compensation.  A starting salary range of $95,000-$115,000 with an attractive benefits package.

Salary and Benefits

12. Systems and Electronic Resources Librarian – Savannah College of Art and Design – Savannah, GA

 

SCAD seeks a systems and electronic resources librarian. The person in this position is responsible for managing and coordinating the technology needs of all the SCAD libraries, including maintenance of the Millennium ILS, electronic resources, and library website, and leads projects and training efforts in these areas.

The librarian will:

Demonstrate innovative and dynamic leadership of all aspects of SCAD Libraries' Millennium operating system, including maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrades

Lead initiatives to maintain an updated Web presence for SCAD Libraries
Work with the director of technical services and systems to represent SCAD Libraries at local and national Innovative/Millennium professional development opportunities

Must possess:

The Kellogg Hubbard Library seeks an innovative, energetic, and dynamic Library Director for a new position.

Located in the heart of the nation's smallest state capital, the library serves a population of 17,600 which includes five surrounding rural towns. The collection consists of approx. 76,000 materials and has an annual circulation of 288,876 - the second highest in VT. The library operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with an endowment that covers a portion of the annual budget. Under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, the Library Director will be responsible for a total annual budget of approx. $950,000.00. The library currently has a staff of 7 full-time employees and 7 part-time employees.

Rock Island has a population of 39,018 residents and is located in western Illinois along the Mississippi River. Rock Island and Moline in Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa make up the metro area called the “Quad Cities” with a population of 436,672.

The Rock Island Public Library was established in 1872 as the first public library in Illinois. The Library has 18 full-time employees and 25 part time employees stationed in three facilities. All employees are unionized with the exception of the Department Head, Assistant Director and area Directors. The Library Director administers a $2.5 million budget.

This is highly responsible professional, administrative and management work in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the public library system. Work involves responsibility for planning, directing, administering and supervising all programs and activities of the library, including budgeting, purchasing and fund raising. Supervision is exercised over professional, technical and office support staff. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Library Board of Trustees and in compliance with Federal, State, and City rules and regulations. Undergraduate degree may be in the area of library science, sociology, political science, public administration, business administration or related field. Thorough experience in library administration including a minimum of six years progressively responsible experience; supplemented by a Masters degree in library science from an ALA-accredited graduate school.
