75th Anniversary of SLIS

The LSU School of Library & Information Science began offering courses in 1926, and became a school in 1931. We have been celebrating our 75th anniversary throughout the year at LSU and with alumni and friends at conferences around the country. To recognize the accomplishments of our more than 3,000 alumni we are:
- Compiling a bibliography of alumni publications
- Developing a database of alumni leadership roles
- Selecting 75 Spectacular Alumni for the anniversary year.
- Registering for birthday presents for SLIS
Alumni Publications
If you have published an article, a book, a book review, a poem or anything else, we want to know about it. Please send the complete bibliographic citations to SlisBib@lsu.edu and we will add you to our list. We know that our alumni have made many contributions to the professional literature and we want to add you to our bibliography. We will make the bibliography available on our website, http://slis.lsu.edu
Alumni Leaders
Have you served on a committee in a state, regional, national or even an international association? Did you chair the committee? Were you elected to an office? Did you become the president? SLIS alumni have held leadership roles in so many organizations, and we want to know about what you have done, regardless of when you graduated. Please send us the name of the organization, the name of the committee, and the dates you served to SlisLeaders@lsu.edu.
75 Spectacular Alumni
Since 1986, we have been selecting Outstanding Alumni, but only one each year. This year, we are celebrating by selecting 75 Spectacular Alumni. We will feature these stars on our website, and use them as examples to inspire our current students. You can nominate a friend from when you were at LSU, or someone you work with, or even yourself. Please send your nominations to Slis75@lsu.edu, with the name of the nominee and a paragraph or two about why he or she is spectacular. Please attach a resume if you can. We will be selecting the first of the 75 Spectacular Alumni in August, and will announce about 15 spectacular alumni on our website each month.
Presents for SLIS (pdf)
Do you want to give a special birthday present to SLIS to help celebrate our 75 years? We have sixteen scholarships and fellowships, and we want to help them grow to meet current tuition levels. We would like to have new scholarships established, too. We need funds to help us actively recruit new students, to develop new programs, to enhance our computer labs, and to improve our facilities.
We know you value your SLIS education, and we look forward to your generous support of our efforts. If we get a check from each alum, just think what we can do!
