About SLIS Admissions Academic Programs Faculty and
Staff Alumni Continuing Projects |
The LSU School of Library & Information Science began offering courses in 1926, and became a school in 1931. We have been celebrating our 75th anniversary throughout the year at LSU and with alumni and friends at conferences around the country. To recognize the accomplishments of our more than 3,000 alumni we are:
75th Anniversary Celebrations We have enjoyed seeing many of our alumni at various celebrations during the year. Please watch our website for news about events in the fall semester.
If you have published an article, a book, a book review, a poem or anything else, we want to know about it. Please send the complete bibliographic citations to SlisBib@lsu.edu and we will add you to our list. We know that our alumni have made many contributions to the professional literature and we want to add you to our bibliography. We will make the bibliography available on our website, http://slis.lsu.edu
Have you served on a committee in a state, regional, national or even an international association? Did you chair the committee? Were you elected to an office? Did you become the president? SLIS alumni have held leadership roles in so many organizations, and we want to know about what you have done, regardless of when you graduated. Please send us the name of the organization, the name of the committee, and the dates you served to SlisLeaders@lsu.edu.
1986, we have been selecting outstanding alumni, but only one each year. This year, we are celebrating by selecting 75 Spectacular Alumni. We will feature these stars on our website, and use them as examples to inspire our current students. You can nominate a friend from when you were at LSU, or someone you work with, or even yourself. Please send your nominations to Slis75@lsu.edu, with the name of the nominee and a paragraph or two about why he or she is a spectacular. Please attach a resume if you can. We will be selecting the first of the 75 Spectacular Alumni in August, and will announce about 15 each month on our website.
Birthday Presents for SLIS (pdf)
Do you want to give a special birthday present to SLIS to help celebrate our 75 years? We have sixteen scholarships and
fellowships, and we want to help them grow to meet current tuition levels. We would like to have new scholarships
established, too. We need funds to help us actively recruit new students, to develop new programs, to enhance our computer
labs, and to improve our facilities. Our scholarships and fellowships help us to recruit the best graduate students. We have awards for full-time and part-time students, some for those who have a specific career interest and others that are more general.
We can help you to set up a new fellowship for SLIS students. Please contact SLISDonors@lsu.edu for details. _____ A travel fund for SLIS students who present papers at conferences We have had several students present papers at regional and national conferences in recent years, but we have no dedicated travel funds to help pay their expenses. This new fund will make money available for air fare, hotels, and other expenses. _____ Faculty support We have two endowed professorships in SLIS, thanks to generous donors. These funds provide additional research support for our faculty. If you would like information about how establish such an endowment, please let us know at SlisDonors@lsu.edu _____ SLIS Development Fund This fund is used for recruiting, to enhance computer resources, and to improve resources. _____ Estate Planning I would like information about how to remember SLIS in my estate planning. SLIS Alumni have made plans to donate to the school, establish new awards, or even to endow a chair. We can help you to work with the LSU Foundation to make plans to provide a lasting contribution to the School. _____ Matching Donations If you or your spouse work for a company such as Exxon Mobile that will match your donation, please enclose their matching form. These companies want their employees to select where their funds will go, and we hope you will select SLIS. Our SLIS scholarships received more than $15,000 in matching funds this year and we look forward to more in the future. |
